Shipping Tiers Configuration
Set up tiered shipping rates based on order amounts for South African customers

Shipping Tiers System

The shipping tiers system allows you to create different shipping rates based on order amounts. This gives you flexibility to offer free shipping for larger orders or different rates for different order sizes.

  • • Create multiple shipping tiers with different order amount ranges
  • • Set free shipping for orders above a certain amount
  • • Configure delivery timeframes for each tier
  • • Sort tiers by priority (lower numbers appear first)

How to Set Up Shipping Tiers:

  1. 1Go to Settings → Shipping & Tax tab
  2. 2Scroll down to the "Shipping Tiers" section
  3. 3Click "Add Tier" to create your first shipping tier
  4. 4Fill in the tier details (see examples below)
  5. 5Save and add more tiers as needed
Example: Standard Shipping
  • Name: "Standard Delivery"
  • Min Order: R0
  • Max Order: R499
  • Cost: R50
  • Delivery: 3-5 business days
Example: Free Shipping
  • Name: "Free Delivery"
  • Min Order: R500
  • Max Order: (leave empty)
  • Cost: R0 (check "Free Shipping")
  • Delivery: 5-7 business days

Important Notes:

  • Order Amount Ranges: Make sure your tiers don't overlap. Each order amount should only match one tier.
  • Sort Order: Lower numbers appear first. Set 0 for highest priority tier.
  • Free Shipping: When checked, shipping cost is automatically set to R0.
  • Active Status: Only active tiers are shown to customers during checkout.
  • Max Order Amount: Leave empty for unlimited (e.g., free shipping for R500+).

Recommended Setup for South Africa:

Small Orders: R0 - R199R75 shipping
Medium Orders: R200 - R499R50 shipping
Large Orders: R500+FREE shipping

Shipping Tiers Troubleshooting
Common issues and solutions when setting up shipping tiers

Issue: "No shipping options available"

This happens when no shipping tiers are configured or all tiers are inactive.

  • • Check that you have at least one active shipping tier
  • • Ensure the tier's order amount range includes the customer's cart total
  • • Verify the tier is set to "Active" status

Issue: Overlapping shipping tiers

When multiple tiers match the same order amount, the system may behave unexpectedly.

  • • Ensure tier ranges don't overlap (e.g., R0-R200 and R150-R400)
  • • Use sort order to prioritize which tier appears first
  • • The system will use the first matching tier based on sort order

Issue: Free shipping not working

Free shipping tiers need to be configured correctly.

  • • Check the "Free Shipping" checkbox for the tier
  • • Ensure the minimum order amount is correct
  • • Verify the tier is active and has the right sort order

Best Practices:

  • • Always have a fallback tier for small orders (R0+)
  • • Test your shipping tiers with different order amounts
  • • Use clear, descriptive names for your tiers
  • • Set realistic delivery timeframes
  • • Consider your actual shipping costs when setting rates
